WI-01: Windows Home Applications NOTE: Some programs require VBRUN100, VBRUN200, or VBRUN300. Because of their large size, we cannot put these files on every disk that needs them. You can find them on some large program disks where indicated, as well as in the RUNTIMES directory of the PsL Monthly CD-ROM. VBRUN100 is on the PsL Reviews Disks (see section 00-01) or you can get a disk with VBRUN100 on it (#9015) or VBRUN200 (#9016) or VBRUN300 (#9017) for FREE if ordered with other disks or for $5 (including S&H) if ordered alone. ========== FINANCIAL: ========== ----------------------- 4459 Financial Programs Small Programs Disk ----------------------- Budget Master 1.0 (BUDMSTR) Clark, Brooks $? is a plain looking but very efficient to use home accounting program. It can help you maintain a budget, keep track of all your income and expenses, and help keep up with bills. Checkbook (CKBOOK) Briatico, Joe $10 is a simple checkbook program. It uses a columnar display that simulates the register of a checkbook. You can easily and quickly enter checks, withdrawals, deposits, service charges, and interest. You can print the register and balance reports. A list of recurring payees is maintained for point-and-click entry. The program does not do reconciliations. Finance 1.0 (FIN-VB) Maurer Associates $10 is a loan amortization program. You enter any three of the four requested load parameters (amount, term, rate, monthly payment), and the program will calculate the missing value. It will print an amortization schedule (but you cannot view it on screen) for a specified number of months, starting with a specified date. VBRUN reqd. Import Quotes 1.0 (IQ-WIN) (08-93 CD) The Carey Group $12 imports/converts stock and mutual fund quotes from various online services into Quicken. Features include a configurable parser, a set editor for creating parser sets, date selection for imported quotes, and more. Lease vs. Buy (LEASBUY) Ford, Nelson ASP $23 analyzes the costs of leasing versus buying equipment such as telephone systems, copiers, cars, computers, etc. It helps you understand and analyze hidden costs in both leasing and buying. Context sensitive help is available on each input field. VBRUN is required. Loan_db_Manager 4.1w (LOANMGR) Soft Solutions $25-$35 is a loan analysis and management program. After you input the information into a loan database, you can request a variety of reports, including Yearly Amortization Schedule, Cost of Loan, Equity vs. Balance, Rate Comparison, and Prepayment Analysis. WinAmort (WINAMRT) Porcaro, Jeff $10 is a loan amortization program. -------------------------------- END OF SMALL PROGRAMS DISK #4459 -------------------------------- Checkbook Sigmon, R.B. Jr. $? #7590/4354 is a checkbook program whose main claim to fame is that it is a Windows 3 application with all the pop-up windows and buttons. The program is very limited in scope compared to the better DOS-based home accounting programs in PsL. Checkbook will not print checks nor let you set up the usual types of income, expense or balance sheet accounts. It will let you reconcile a bank account and mark transactions as being tax related. Hard drive and 640K recommended. Money Smith Smith, Bradley J. ASP $30 #7590/3685 is a complete double-entry accounting system. It features arbitrary accounting dates, a toolbar with the most frequently-used functions on it, automatic (recurring) transactions, printable reports and graphs that change as you update data, and password protection. Other features include budgeting, an integrated investment section, context sensitive help, check printing, international format support, and more. Sample charts of accounts are included for both home and small business use. Money Smith is less overwhelming (and less flashy) than WinCheck, but seems to be equally powerful. The double-entry aspect may make Money Smith seem more confusing to some people and more flexible to others. WinCheck Wilson WindowWare ASP $70 #7590/3051 [2 disks] is a checkbook program for Windows. It is very attractively done, with good use of colorful icons, and all the features are well thought out. You can mark transactions as having cleared, and an account reconciliation aid is provided. You can export data in a format readable by 1-2-3 and other programs, and import Quicken files. Additional features include the ability to save and recall up to 32 common transactions, multiple accounts, and no limit on the number of monthly transactions. Funds can easily be moved between accounts. It will print checks, and has the ability to design the layout of checks. A variety of reports can be generated. Categories may be classified as Income, Expense, or Both, and may be marked at tax deductible. Custom tools (apps) can be added to the menus, and on-line help is always available. A sample application is included for managing payroll deposits. A hard disk is required. $Defender for Windows 3.1b [$DEF1, $DEF2] (10-93 CD) Conrad Button's Software $20 #20119/4364 [2 disks] is a financial analysis program that contains seven frequently used financial tools: Loan Amortization, Annuity, Fixed Investments, Periodic Investments, U.S. Savings Bonds, Mutual Fund Performance Analysis, and Retirement Planning. Features include example calculations, a pop-up interval calendar to help determine the number of days between any two selected dates, full Clipboard support, keyboard and mouse support, and more. VBRUN200 is included. Financier Plus Virtual Srket Technology $25 #7591/3769 will calculate amortization schedules and perform many other financial calculations. Balloon and additional payments can be included with schedules. What-if questions such as term determination, present value determination, and interest iteration can also be answered. Financier can determine accrued or compound interest on a sum of money, bond present value, annuities, sinking fund, discount yield, future value, and more. Also included is a budget organizer, calculator, calendar, checkbook ledger, stock portfolio section, and a text editor. A hard disk is required. Hi, Finance! 2.18 Brightridge Solutions, Inc. ASP $64 #27591/3869 [2 disks] is a comprehensive financial calculation and planning tool. Features include a financial calculator, loan calculation and amortization, personal financial planner, Form 1040 summary, random number generator, and various business utilities. The Bill Drawer 1.0 (09-93 CD) MelissaSoft Systems $15-$30 #20249 helps you pay your bills in a timely manner. It organizes your bills by their due date and lets you review, select, and write checks for only the bills you desire. Features include support for recurring bills, monthly and yearly statistical reports, full check register with supporting detail, full account reconciliation functions, and much more. Available on 3.5" 1.44mb MegaDisk and CD ONLY! Bond Tracker 1.3 Full Sail Software $4 #4732 allows you to keep track of U.S. Savings Bonds. It will let you know when each bond will reach maturity and provides an estimate of its present value. Other features include the ability to print a list of all bond information, variable interest rates, and more. VBRUN is included on this disk. Home Accountant for Windows 2.5 [HOMEAC] (10-93 CD) Winslow, Brad $15 #12143 allows you to keep track of your household expenses, budgets, bank accounts, and credit cards. Expenses and incomes are categorized, and several types of reports can be sent to screen or to printer. Bar charts and Pie charts can easily be created. A unique double-click zoom feature allows you to instantly obtain more detailed information about an item in a report or chart. Requires WIN31. LaserMax for Microsoft Money 1.25 [LMM] (09-93 CD) LaserMax Software $49 #12318 prints MICR encoded blank checks on an HP LaserJet+ compatible printer. It supports Quicken Classic Laser Standard, Quicken Classic Laser Voucher, and UBCC-style voucher checks. This version works with Microsoft Money 2.0. A version for Quicken for Windows is available below. LaserMax for Quicken for Windows 1.25 [LQW125] (09-93 CD) LaserMax Software $49 #4951 prints MICR encoded checks for Quicken 2.0+ for Windows using blank check stock and an HP LaserJet+ compatible printer. Features include support for the CHEQsys MICR system, four-per-page check printing, and more. Money Smith Financial Calculator 1.0 Money Smith Systems, Inc. ASP $19 #12063 performs complex financial formulas using a calculatorstyle interface. Financial functions include present and future values, annuities, effective interest rates, and ACRS depreciation. This will also function as an algebraic calculator supporting both infix and postfix notations. Mortgage Designer for Windows 2.02 MaeDae Enterprises $44 #4696 performs fast and easy mortgage calculations. You can generate amortization schedules to screen, printer, or disk file, and can choose which payments are shown. Complex what-if calculations can be performed, and the principal, interest rate, term, or payment can be adjusted. Other features include tax and insurance (PITI) calculations, a dynamic loan lifetime P&I chart, support for quarterly and yearly payments, and much more. Parity Technical Analysis System 1.4 [PRTY14D1, PRTY14D2] (08-93 CD) Parity Software Systems $79 #7616/3957 [2 disks] is a powerful stock charting and technical analysis program. It offers over 40 indicators plus user-defined formulas. The program can produce HLC bar charts, Japanese Candlesticks, 12 types of Point and Figure charts, Equivolume and Crocker-type charts, and much more. It is fully compatible with MetaStock, ChartPro, and MegaStock data formats. You can import/export text files and EXCEL/123 spreadsheets. Requires VGA, a hard drive, and a mouse. Alan Davis, Wellington, KS: "The Parity program is the worst experience I've ever had with any software. I followed the instructions verbatim, and the program won't run - it locks up the system. If you are able to make Parity run, I'd sure like to hear how." PsL: The README.TXT file says: If Parity appears to lock up during an operation and the mouse icon is locked into an Hour Glass cursor, just hit the Up Arrow key." This worked for us. Stable-Technical Graphs 1.11 Winterra Software Group ASP $54 #7616/3774 is a powerful stock market technical analysis program. It can display and print quality indicator studies used to analyze any stock, bond, commodity, mutual fund, index or option. The program lets you easily compare important indicator events across all graphs in a chart. MetaStock 2.5 and ASCII formatted data files can be imported. Up to 64 charts can be displayed and printed. Stable Data Assistant 1.02 WINTERRA Software Group $40 #12249 provides a set of highly flexible data management functions for retrieving and maintaining ASCII financial data files. It can automatically retrieve daily and historical data from CompuServe, and perform verification and split/dividend adjustments. This is a companion product to Stable-Technical Graphs (above), but can be used with other programs that make use of ASCII information in the Stable format. Requires Windows 3.1. RetireA for Windows [RETIRA] (09-93 CD) McGrath, Tom $15 #12492 is a powerful retirement planning tool. You simply input income and expenses, and the program produces line charts, bar graphs, and other reports indicating the monthly cash flow situation over a selected 30 year time period. Wall $treet the Bottom Line for Windows 1.9 [WSTBLFW] (09-93 CD) Image Plus Software $55 #27775 is a personal investment manager for Windows. It helps you keep track of and analyze your investments, and can display and print reports and automatically generate graphs. The program can easily accommodate Short Sales, traditional investments, and even coins and other collectable investments. It can calculate and display various factors based on buy and sell prices, fees and commissions paid, date bought and sold, and much more. This is a very comprehensive financial package, and a hard disk space is required. VBRUN200 is included on this disk. Available on 3.5" 1.44mb MegaDisk and CD ONLY. Wealth Partner 1.1 Smith, Robert S. $12-$43 #20132/4842 [2 disks] helps you plan a sound financial strategy. It demonstrates ways to save money on taxes and buying insurance, and provides rules for investing wisely. Tools are included to calculate loan payments, compare loans, figure your net worth, and much more. Includes VBRUN200. WinBond 3.1a [WINBOND] (09-93 CD) Stech, Bob $15 #12267 allows you to track and valuate Series EE savings bonds. You can view current bond values and interest earned, as well as project bond values over the next 20 years starting with current actual bond value. Additional features include Department of Treasury tables, sold bonds/interest earned history tracking, ASCII export capabilities, and more. Requires VBRUN200. WinFin 2.3 Gjetaas, Inc. $20 #12426 is a collection of 12 financial analysis programs. It can perform calculations on mortgages, installment loans, bonds, T-bills, CD's, annuities, net present value, and more. Each module uses a simple fill-in-the-blank approach. VBRUN100 is included on this disk. ============== HOME, GENERAL: ============== ---------------------- 2854 Home Applications Small Programs Disk ---------------------- AreaCode (AREA-VB) McGuinness, Charles $0 allows you to find the name for US and Canadian area codes. It will also display the local time in that area code. VB source code is included. Requires VBRUN. CaseLinr 3.9c (CASELIN) (10-93 CD) Adasiewicz, Ed $10 prints case liners for audio cassettes. Features include multiple font control, reverse video side letters, and liner inversion. Other features include a Print Setup, an option to reset all fonts, on-line help, title alignment, margins, and splitting. Cassette Template (CASS) Thies, Peter $0 is a cassette tape liner template created using Corel Draw. The purpose is to provide you with an easy-to-use template from which you can create tape liner inserts for your cassettes. Fish'n Log 1.6 (FISHNLG) Denihan, Timothy J. $10 is a fishing log/diary program to document your fishing trips. Fields are provided to enter location, date, comments, and more. Sorting can be done on location and date. VBRUN is required. Parents 3.0 NickleWare $25 is a genealogy program for Windows 3. It allows you to enter and store vital information such as names, birth, marriage, death dates, places and more. You can print the detailed information about any one of your ancestors as well as print your immediate tree. Postage Due 1.0 (POSTDUE) The Key Board $5 provides United Parcel Service (UPS) shipping charges for the U.S. Commercial, residential, red and blue shipping rates are included. A sample zone chart for New Mexico is included. VBRUN is required. Subliminal Help 2.0 (SUBHELP) ClickWare $20 flashes subliminal messages to lose weight or quit smoking. Requires VBRUN200. WinTide 1.5 (08-93 CD) Gross, Henry $10 is a linear tide clock. It lets you estimate the present or predicted relative Tide height and the times of the next corresponding high and low tides. -------------------------------- END OF SMALL PROGRAMS DISK #2854 [3] -------------------------------- ------------------------- 3972 Home Applications #2 Small Programs Disk ------------------------- Automotive Maintenance 1.0 (AUTOMNT) Schoeffel, Dave $1 keeps track of when scheduled vehicle maintenance is due. Data files can be checked at computer start-up time for vehicles which are due maintenance. VBRUN is required. Recipe Maker 2.3 (RECIPE) NickleWare $25 assists in recipe organization, grocery shopping, and meal planning. Once you have entered in your favorite recipes, the program lets you plan each meal for an entire week and print a shopping list of ingredients for those meals. Individual recipes may also be printed. WindBase 2.0 (WINDBAS) NickleWare $25 helps simplify data collection, storage and retrieval. It allows you to design custom data entry forms and at the same time create the database to match it. It will also allow you to index and re-index your data by a single field or multiple fields. You can create, store, and view multiple database files all at the same time. When you are ready to print your data, WindBase will print it in the same custom layout or let you reorganize the data to best fit your needs. WindBase appears not to work right with Adobe Type Manager. Windows Collector System 1.01 (WCS) Alston Software Labs $25 is a database program to keep track of a variety of collections including household inventory, machine parts and more. It can store and retrieve 32k text files and scanned photos. VBRUN and 510K of disk space is required. X-10 Control Program for Windows 1.3 (X10CTL) Fosdick, Larry E. $0 provides complete access and control for the CP-290 X-10 controller. Timed events can be saved to and restored from disk files. There is a direct control window and a 16-position dimmer function. MixCase 1.40 (MIXCASE) 09-93 cd Ivory Tower Software $35 converts all-caps documents to more readable mixed case. It works with any text file or any Windows clipboard text. A customizable capitalization dictionary is included. VBRUN200 is required. PCExpert 1.0 (PCXPERT) Full Sail Software $10 assists you in purchasing a computer system. It will ask you a series of questions regarding your computer needs. Three different lists of components can be printed, including a power-user's system, mid-line system, and budget system. This is very easy to use, and the printed lists are very impressive. Staff Sergeant 1.01 [STAFFS] Music John Meadows; $0 prints blank music paper on letter or legal size paper. Requires VBRUN300. TypeSmart 2.2 (TYPSMRT) Lian, Tim W. $32 helps reduce keystrokes when typing long or repetitive words. It works in the background while you are in a text editor or word processor, creating a database of the words you have typed. If you start to type a word already used in the same session, it pops up and allows you to insert the word by pressing the ALT key and a letter from the list. This is an excellent time-saving utility. All API function names are included for interested programmers. WinFly 1.0B (WINFLY) Rylander, James E. $12 helps keep track of your frequent flyer miles. The following airlines are supported in this version: American, Continental, Delta, TWA, USAir, and United. Supported physical activities include running, cycling, swimming, and walking. Astro-World 1.1 for Windows Fabian, Marcus $55 #20159 [2 disks] allows you to calculate and print a detailed horoscope without any previous experience in astrology. You simply type in a name, birth date and time, and location of birth, and the program produces a graphic Natal chart which can have up to a 30-page printed report. A database of historical figures is included, and an extensive help file explains many cryptic astrological terms. Atlus Hyrax Systems $20 #3482 is an atlas of the United States. It provides information about all the states, the District of Columnbia, and more than 150 cities. You can add more cities. When you click on a city on the U.S. map display, information about that city pops up. You can have the program locate a city from a list or have it quiz you on U.S. geography. The author can no longer be reached at the address listed in the documentation. BibleTool 2.0 Your Electronic House of Publishing $30-$55 #20206 [4 disks] is a Bible study and reference tool for Windows 3.x. It contains the entire New Testament of the KJV Bible. A built-in text editor is provided for taking notes and copying verses. All notes, topics, verses, or text can be printed or saved to a disk file. Any book may be accessed by simply clicking on the table of contents. Particular words or phrases can be searched for, and a list of all verses containing the search text may also be printed or saved. This is a powerful and sophisticated program, suitable for any student of the Bible. 2.5 meg of hard disk space is required. Collect! 1.0 for Windows [COLW1] (10-93 CD) Alston Software Labs $25 #12400 is a powerful program for managing any sort of collection. It comes with several pre-defined templates for specific catalogs, or you may create your own. The built-in financial capabilities allow you to track the value of your collection. Customized reports can be printed with only the information you specify. Bitmapped graphics and descriptive text files can be attached to records. Other features include advanced search options, file overwrite protection, automated file backups, and more. VBRUN200 is included on this disk. (A DOS-based version of this program is available on disk #4183.) HomeWorks 1.0 M & T Books $55 #20209 [2 disks] is a powerful home inventory program for Windows. It allows you to easily set up a room-by-room inventory using pre-defined rooms (kitchen, bedrooms, den, etc.), and you can also define custom rooms. Information about items can include product type, room location, purchase price/date/location, warranty information, insurance coverage, and more. Most of this information is accessed by pre-defined drop down menus, or you can type in any text. Reports can be generated by room, product type, or description. Other options include complete control of screen/printer fonts and screen colors, location of toolbar, and floating help. This package is very easy to learn and use, with many well designed features. JRE Home Inventory 4.1 [JREHI] (10-93 CD) JRE Enterprises $11 #20213 [2 disks] allows you to easily keep track of all your personal property. Property can be grouped by insurance categories, personal categories, locations (home/office), and/or sub-locations (rooms). Several types of reports can be printed including property value, warranty expiration reminders, and more. Other features include instant access to the Windows calculator, optional WAV sound support, and full Windows font support for buttons/fields/labels. VBRUN200 is included on this disk. WIN31 is required. JSSi Garden 1.1A [JSSIGAR] (09-93 CD) JSSi $20 #12485 is a garden management package for Windows. It allows you to draw the layout of your garden, showing where everything is located. Information on each crop can contain a generic name, specific name, number of units, a comment field, and specific dates. All data may be viewed in tabular format, sorted, and printed. VBRUN300 is included on this disk. NCompass 3cs Software $50 #3686 is a desktop mapping/travel package. It combines the information of a travel map with the graphic power of Windows. Three maps are provided in this version: USA, Michigan, and Grand Rapids, and other maps are available from the author. The supplied maps can be modified, or you can create your own. You can also zoom in and out, and copy all or part of your display to the Clipboard for use in other programs. Great detail is provided on the Grand Rapids map which allows you to click on any intersection for street information, and also shows hospitals, city parks, and a few points of interest. VGA, a mouse, and 1 meg of disk space are required. Nutri-Base Jr. 1.0a [NBJR] (09-93 CD) Munchware $15 #12503 is a nutritional database and analysis program. A list of all the food items consumed during the day can be quickly compiled, and the resulting daily totals of each nutrient can be displayed. The program automatically analyzes the nutrient information and calculates what percentage of total calories comes from carbohydrates, protein, fat, and from saturated fat. A Nutrition Reference section is included to provide you with basic information about each nutrient. BG Jogger 1.0 Green, Robert J. $20 #27888 allows you to record and review jogging statistics for up to 50 events. It allows you to track many details, including time, distance, route, and description information. Daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, and lifetime jogging statistics can be viewed in a report format or graph. clySmic Lunar Almanack clySmic Software $0 #4458 displays detailed information about the moon, including phase, constellation and signe, rising and setting times, and more. It can be easily configured for any location in the continental U.S. Chord Master for Guitar T.R. Software $12-$30 #20232/4362 gives you instant visual access to over 350 guitar chord fingerings. You simply click on the chord you are interested in, and a fretboard is displayed. VBRUN is included on this disk. Enjoy Your Guitar 1.1b [EYG] (10-93 CD) Enjoy Computer Software $29 #20232/12404 is an editor-librarian for guitar chords and scales. Sounds can be played through MIDI or the PC speaker. Chords are shown using conventional diagrams, a music staff, and a keyboard. 432 chords and 360 scale definitions are provided. VBRUN300 is included on this disk. Control Diabetes 1.2 NutriSoft $29 #12311 can help persons with diabetes manage their diet. It allows you to monitor the amount of fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates, calcium, protein and calories in your diet. It also provides an analysis of sugars in common foods. Utilities are also included to calculate ideal weight, and suggested daily caloric, fat, and fiber intake. Cook! MarilynSoft $23 #3710 provides an easy way to manage your favorite recipes. It can generate shopping lists, and you can instantly locate foods via any kind of search criteria (nutrition, ingredients, etc.). The flexible, free-form data entry makes getting started very easy. dbCoin for Windows 1.0 Hetzel, Mark L. $27 #4733 is a coin collection inventory system. You can record country, catalog number, type, denomination, mint date, grade, purchase date, cost, market value and comments. Other features include powerful edit/browse functions, printed reports, and more. VBRUN is included on this disk. Fat and Cholesterol Counter 1.1 NutriSoft $19 #12314 allows you to calculate and monitor the amount of fat, cholesterol, sodium, and calories in your diet. It lets you estimate your risk of heart disease, and identify foods with high fiber or Omega-3 contents which may lower your cholesterol level. Other features include the ability to calculate your ideal weight and caloric need/expenditure. The program comes with a database of over Frequency Manager 1.0 Saladino, Ben $25 #4831 helps organize and manage radio frequencies that amateur radio operators and scanner enthusiasts use. It allows you to store, sort, print, and #12143 search for frequencies. Features include Paradox file support, text import/export functions, six information fields, support for 200 entries, and more. From Scratch 2.10 (10-93 CD) Desktop Solutions ASP $39 #20279 is a recipe processor for Windows. It uses a dBase compatible file format and includes features for nutrition information. Other features include a "time to prepare" field, a field to track the origin of the recipe, searches on keywords/ingredients/title, 10,000 characters per entry for instructions, and much more. A shopping list manager is also provided. Recipes and shopping lists can be printed. Requires WIN31 and VGA. On 3.5" MegaDisk and CD only. Greek New Testament For Windows Software Sharing Ministries $? #7642/4040 [2 disks] contains the entire Greek New Testament in Microsoft Windows Write format. True Greek characters will appear when the Symbol Font is active. Bible Window Smith, Robert S. $9 #3546 displays one of 366 Bible verses and one of 600 challenging Bible trivia questions. It also provides a screen saver that displays random Bible verses. A hard disk is required. Marcia Meier, Public Brand Software: "I am returning the Bible Window disk. The program does not work. Kindly replace this disk with a Visual Basic disk." PsL: In this particular case, the program requires that the files be on drive C: in a subdirectory named BW, which is automatically created when you run the INSTALL program that comes on the disk. Biblistrate for Windows 1.0 West, Robert $25 #20196 contains 1400 sermon illustrations. This is designed for pastors or Sunday School teachers, and will allow you to add your own ideas to the ones included with the program. VBRUN100 is included on this disk.
